Revert 95ebabde382c ("capabilities: Don't allow writing ambiguous v3 file capabilities")
commit 3b0c2d3eaa83da259d7726192cf55a137769012f upstream. It turns out that there are in fact userspace implementations that care and this recent change caused a regression. https://github.com/containers/buildah/issues/3071 As the motivation for the original change was future development, and the impact is existing real world code just revert this change and allow the ambiguity in v3 file caps. smackfs: restrict bytes count in smackfs write functions
commit 7ef4c19d245f3dc233fd4be5acea436edd1d83d8 upstream.
syzbot found WARNINGs in several smackfs write operations where
bytes count is passed to memdup_user_nul which exceeds
GFP MAX_ORDER. Check count size if bigger than PAGE_SIZE.
Per smackfs doc, smk_write_net4addr accepts any label or -CIPSO,
smk_write_net6addr accepts any label or -DELETE. I couldn't find
any general rule for other label lengths except SMK_LABELLEN,
SMK_LONGLABEL, SMK_CIPSOMAX which are documented.
Let's constrain, in general, smackfs label lengths for PAGE_SIZE.
Although fuzzer crashes write to smackfs/netlabel on 0x400000 length.
Here is a quick way to reproduce the WARNING:

The documentation has the following description:
migratable= 0|1 indicating permission to reseal to new PCR values,
default 1 (resealing allowed)
The consequence is that "migratable=1" should succeed. Fix this by
allowing this condition to pass instead of return -EINVAL.

certs: Fix blacklist flag type confusion

KEY_FLAG_KEEP is not meant to be passed to keyring_alloc() or key_alloc(),
as these only take KEY_ALLOC_* flags. KEY_FLAG_KEEP has the same value as
KEY_ALLOC_BYPASS_RESTRICTION, but fortunately only key_create_or_update()
uses it. LSMs using the key_alloc hook don't check that flag.
KEY_FLAG_KEEP is then ignored but fortunately (again) the root user cannot
write to the blacklist keyring, so it is not possible to remove a key/hash
from it.
Fix this by adding a KEY_ALLOC_SET_KEEP flag that tells key_alloc() to set
KEY_FLAG_KEEP on the new key. blacklist_init() can then, correctly, pass
this to keyring_alloc().
We can also use this in ima_mok_init() rather than setting the flag
manually.
Note that this doesn't fix an observable bug with the current
implementation but it is required to allow addition of new hashes to the
blacklist in the future without making it possible for them to be removed.

capabilities: Don't allow writing ambiguous v3 file capabilities

The v3 file capabilities have a uid field that records the filesystem
uid of the root user of the user namespace the file capabilities are
valid in.
When someone is silly enough to have the same underlying uid as the
root uid of multiple nested containers a v3 filesystem capability can
be ambiguous.
In the spirit of don't do that then, forbid writing a v3 filesystem
capability if it is ambiguous.

ima: Free IMA measurement buffer after kexec syscall

IMA allocates kernel virtual memory to carry forward the measurement
list, from the current kernel to the next kernel on kexec system call,
in ima_add_kexec_buffer() function. This buffer is not freed before
completing the kexec system call resulting in memory leak.
Add ima_buffer field in "struct kimage" to store the virtual address
of the buffer allocated for the IMA measurement list.
Free the memory allocated for the IMA measurement list in
kimage_file_post_load_cleanup() function.

cap: fix conversions on getxattr

This is wrong: v2 cap should be equivalent to a v3 cap with zero rootid, and so the same conversions performed on it. If the rootid cannot be mapped, v3 is returned unconverted. Fix this so that both v2 and v3 return -EOVERFLOW if the rootid (or the owner of the fs user namespace in case of v2) cannot be mapped into the current user namespace. ima: Remove __init annotation from ima_pcrread()
commit 8b8c704d913b0fe490af370631a4200e26334ec0 upstream.
Commit 6cc7c266e5b4 ("ima: Call ima_calc_boot_aggregate() in
ima_eventdigest_init()") added a call to ima_calc_boot_aggregate() so that
the digest can be recalculated for the boot_aggregate measurement entry if
the 'd' template field has been requested. For the 'd' field, only SHA1 and
MD5 digests are accepted.
Given that ima_eventdigest_init() does not have the __init annotation, all
functions called should not have it. This patch removes __init from
ima_pcrread().

ima: Don't modify file descriptor mode on the fly
commit 207cdd565dfc95a0a5185263a567817b7ebf5467 upstream.
Commit a408e4a86b36b ("ima: open a new file instance if no read
permissions") already introduced a second open to measure a file when the
original file descriptor does not allow it. However, it didn't remove the
existing method of changing the mode of the original file descriptor, which
is still necessary if the current process does not have enough privileges

Changing the mode isn't really an option, as the filesystem might need to
do preliminary steps to make the read possible. Thus, this patch removes
the code and keeps the second open as the only option to measure a file
when it is unreadable with the original file descriptor.

selinux: fix inode_doinit_with_dentry() LABEL_INVALID error handling

A previous fix, commit 83370b31a915 ("selinux: fix error initialization
in inode_doinit_with_dentry()"), changed how failures were handled
before a SELinux policy was loaded. Unfortunately that patch was
potentially problematic for two reasons: it set the isec->initialized
state without holding a lock, and it didn't set the inode's SELinux
label to the "default" for the particular filesystem. The later can
be a problem if/when a later attempt to revalidate the inode fails
and SELinux reverts to the existing inode label.
This patch should restore the default inode labeling that existed
before the original fix, without affecting the LABEL_INVALID marking
such that revalidation will still be attempted in the future.

Commit 95ffe194204a ("selinux: refactor mls_context_to_sid() and make
it stricter") inadvertently changed how we handle labels that did not
contain MLS information. This patch restores the proper behavior in

behavior to help ensure this doesn't happen again.

ima: Don't ignore errors from crypto_shash_update()
commit 60386b854008adc951c470067f90a2d85b5d520f upstream.
Errors returned by crypto_shash_update() are not checked in
ima_calc_boot_aggregate_tfm() and thus can be overwritten at the next
iteration of the loop. This patch adds a check after calling
crypto_shash_update() and returns immediately if the result is not zero.

selinux: allow labeling before policy is loaded
[ Upstream commit 3e3e24b42043eceb97ed834102c2d094dfd7aaa6 ] Currently, the SELinux LSM prevents one from setting the `security.selinux` xattr on an inode without a policy first being loaded. However, this restriction is problematic: it makes it impossible to have newly created files with the correct label before actually loading the policy. This is relevant in distributions like Fedora, where the policy is loaded by systemd shortly after pivoting out of the initrd. In such instances, all files created prior to pivoting will be unlabeled. One then has to relabel them after pivoting, an operation which inherently races with other processes trying to access those same files. Going further, there are use cases for creating the entire root filesystem on first boot from the initrd (e.g. Container Linux supports this today[1], and we'd like to support it in Fedora CoreOS as well[2]). One can imagine doing this in two ways: at the block device level (e.g. laying down a disk image), or at the filesystem level. In the former, labeling can simply be part of the image. But even in the latter scenario, one still really wants to be able to set the right labels when populating the new filesystem. This patch enables this by changing behaviour in the following two ways: 1. allow `setxattr` if we're not initialized 2. don't try to set the in-core inode SID if we're not initialized; instead leave it as `LABEL_INVALID` so that revalidation may be attempted at a later time Note the first hunk of this patch is mostly the same as a previously discussed one[3], though it was part of a larger series which wasn't accepted. UPSTREAM: security: allow using Clang's zero initialization for stack variables
Upstream commit f0fe00d4972a8cd4b98cc2c29758615e4d51cdfe. In addition to -ftrivial-auto-var-init=pattern (used by CONFIG_INIT_STACK_ALL now) Clang also supports zero initialization for locals enabled by -ftrivial-auto-var-init=zero. The future of this flag is still being debated (see https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45497). Right now it is guarded by another flag, -enable-trivial-auto-var-init-zero-knowing-it-will-be-removed-from-clang, which means it may not be supported by future Clang releases. Another possible resolution is that -ftrivial-auto-var-init=zero will persist (as certain users have already started depending on it), but the name of the guard flag will change. In the meantime, zero initialization has proven itself as a good production mitigation measure against uninitialized locals. Unlike pattern initialization, which has a higher chance of triggering existing bugs, zero initialization provides safe defaults for strings, pointers, indexes, and sizes. On the other hand, pattern initialization remains safer for return values. Chrome OS and Android are moving to using zero initialization for production builds. Performance-wise, the difference between pattern and zero initialization is usually negligible, although the generated code for zero initialization is more compact. This patch renames CONFIG_INIT_STACK_ALL to CONFIG_INIT_STACK_ALL_PATTERN and introduces another config option, CONFIG_INIT_STACK_ALL_ZERO, that enables zero initialization for locals if the corresponding flags are supported by Clang. Smack: fix use-after-free in smk_write_relabel_self()
commit beb4ee6770a89646659e6a2178538d2b13e2654e upstream.
smk_write_relabel_self() frees memory from the task's credentials with
no locking, which can easily cause a use-after-free because multiple
tasks can share the same credentials structure.
Fix this by using prepare_creds() and commit_creds() to correctly modify
the task's credentials.

Currently it is possible to specify a state machine table with 0 length,
this is not valid as optional tables are specified by not defining
the table as present. Further this allows by-passing the base tables

apparmor: don't try to replace stale label in ptraceme check

begin_current_label_crit_section() must run in sleepable context because
when label_is_stale() is true, aa_replace_current_label() runs, which uses
prepare_creds(), which can sleep.
Until now, the ptraceme access check (which runs with tasklist_lock held)
violated this rule.

Currently apparmor_sk_clone_security() does not check for existing
label/peer in the 'new' struct sock; it just overwrites it, if any
(with another reference to the label of the source sock.)

other LSMs, being introduced in 2010/2014, before apparmor socket

Fix two issues with introspecting the task mode.
1. If a task is attached to a unconfined profile that is not the
ns->unconfined profile then. Mode the mode is always reported
as -

instead of the correct value of (unconfined) as shown below

ima: Call ima_calc_boot_aggregate() in ima_eventdigest_init()

If the template field 'd' is chosen and the digest to be added to the
measurement entry was not calculated with SHA1 or MD5, it is
recalculated with SHA1, by using the passed file descriptor. However, this
cannot be done for boot_aggregate, because there is no file descriptor.
This patch adds a call to ima_calc_boot_aggregate() in
ima_eventdigest_init(), so that the digest can be recalculated also for the
boot_aggregate entry.

evm: Fix possible memory leak in evm_calc_hmac_or_hash()

Don't immediately return if the signature is portable and security.ima is
not present. Just set error so that memory allocated is freed before
returning from evm_calc_hmac_or_hash().
